Members of West Coast Speakers Club met for their fortnightly meeting at the Cumberland Hotel on a wet and windy Monday night.Depleted numbers did nothing to dampen enthusiasm and the meeting was judged one of the best by general evaluator Adelaide Johnston.Vice-president Anna Wilson opened the business session before handing over to David Preshaw, chairman for the evening. Our first speech was from the youngest member of the club Jess Longrigg who gave an impassioned monologue called History Makers. The thought provoking speech was followed by Mike George’s impromptu presentation entitled Short Days and Long Nights.
He spoke for more than seven minutes after having just a few minutes to prepare.Topics chairman Liz Horder divided the members and guest Connor Reid into teams for a laugh a minute session based on the popular Radio 4 programme Just a Minute.New members and guests are always warmly welcomed at the club, which meets fortnightly throughout Autumn, Winter and Spring. For more information, contact club president Frank Grace on 01900 822951.
